One issue I am coming a crossed  with my shift away from hay this year is how to handle not having hay for long time customers.  People have bought hay from me since I first started farming, and their loyalty is valuable when needing to move hay.  Since my hay acres will be reduced this year, I have been thinking about how to handle it when I get my calls in for hay this summer.

The solution I will probably implement is to have another grower’s contact information to forward all the customers to.  This is a huge benefit for the other grower, almost worth some money, and it solves the problem of  leaving my customers in a lurch.  But the downside is that I will probably lose some customers to the other grower.  But that’s just the cost of business.
